No Cash Bail

It is well publicized that many (most?) liberal governors and the prosecutors they empower are rushing headlong to liberate criminals and depopulate prisons all in the interest of more equitable justice. This is mostly in response to Disparate Impact, where only 13% of inmates should be Black but 4X that number actually are.

For example, not sure I have this exactly right and I’m sure there are nuances I’ve missed, but as I understand it the changes in Illinois thanks to fat boy Jay Pritzer’s SAFE-T Act include:

  • No cash bail unless offender is deemed a flight risk.

  • Not even for murder.

  • Judges may not consider past behavior in determining flight risk.  What are they supposed to consider?

  • Law enforcement cannot charge a perpetrator wearing an ankle monitor with escape until 48 hours off the grid.

  • Felonies must go to trial in 90 days, no matter how complicated.

Talk about a double edge sword.  Law enforcement is being defunded, police shortages are epidemic and we’re going to increase the number of perpetrators on the streets.  Makes about as much sense as open borders and cutting off our energy production.

Pray tell, what am I?
