Moral Equivalence
Definition: A term used with regularity these days to draw comparisons between two things or acts. Basically, implying one is just as bad as the other (or good, but mostly bad).
We hear this term used more and more in political circles and commentary as opposite sides seek to defend positions and attack opposing ones. I’m not sure I am crystal on its precise meaning as, with most things these days, it is used pejoratively and with little regard for veracity.
Regardless, one of the best examples is the left’s attempt to characterize the Hamas attack of October 7, which murdered 1200 Israelis and took 240 hostages, as morally equivalent to Israeli retaliation since and persecution in the past. As my father would say…By whose standards?
The unprovoked savagery of the Hamas attack was unimaginable. We have all heard recounts of raping pregnant women and putting babies in ovens. To suggest that, on any level, the actions of the Israelis to destroy the enemy who committed these atrocities is somehow equivalent is ludicrous. The only reason civilians in Gaza are at risk is because they are inseparable from Hamas terrorists and in bed with them at every level.
Not surprisingly Chief Apologist Obama feels differently…
President Barack Obama said after Hamas’ attack upon Israel that both this attack and the Israeli occupation were unjustified. As though they were in some twisted way the same.
Then the International Criminal Court charged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the intentional targeting of civilians in the course of the conflict in Gaza; such targeting is a war crime under international law.
The ICC’s document charged three leaders of Hamas with war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture and the taking of hostages, during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks.
Amazing! Morally equivalent – I think not.
Ever wonder?
Why we are running out of money to fund Social Security and Medicare but have seemingly endless floods of taxpayer money to fund welfare, illegal immigrants and free college? Probably the same reason Democrats call Americans “deplorables” but call illegal immigrants “dreamers”.
To wit…
Actuaries from Social Security and Medicare testified before Congress on Thursday (June 13) that unless Congress acts both funds will be depleted within a decade. Joe’s plan? Tax the rich.
Not So Fun Fact
At the end of 2019 an 8-count packet of Chik fil A nuggets cost $3.05. Today that same 8-count pack costs $5.99. An increase of 96.4% in less than four years under you know whom. Think the price will come down to $3.05 again. You bet it won’t.
Policy Trumps Personality (still)
This past week I had the first ever recipient of this blog request “to unsubscribe”. Her reason – she could not disagree more with the positions asserted.
Although I applaud her candor, I have been troubled all weekend by the implications.
She could not disagree more. With what thought I?
Of course, the issue is not the policies espoused herein, but the person most likely to implement them. Namely, of course, Donald J. Trump.
How can any American not be for…
A secure border properly administered to restrict an unfettered floor of illegal immigrants (and drugs) many of whom wish America ill will?
A robust military that intimidates all who seek our demise and protects us from the powerful enemies we most definitely have?
Energy independence that eliminates reliance on sources held by those undeniably unfriendly to American interests?
Giving Social Security and Medicare the priority they deserve in terms of government spending?
Putting a lid on both Federal deficits and debt?
Standing by our allies when they strike back at terrorists who invade and commit atrocities?
Making sure our children are not poisoned in the classroom by anti-American, racist, gender questioning rhetoric, especially without parental oversight?
Adherence to the rule of law including a fair, apolitical judicial system? Returning again to a Nation of Laws?
Etc.
No, it is not the policies that cause far too many to cling to the hapless Biden regime. It is personality. For the record, I reiterate my position. I was for DeSantis, first and foremost, and second, practically anybody but DJT. Why am I not a Trump devotee? Simple, the only priority should be making damn sure Biden doesn’t get four more years to NOT implement the aforementioned policies. Four more years of confusion and malfeasance.
Unfortunately, I feel Trump of all the Republican choices. is the most likely to lose to Biden.
As we all know from personal experience and as Rush Limbaugh first explained and reiterated often, it is not possible to debate or convince a Left wing liberal. Can’t be done. All we can ask is for voters to remember they are not being asked to move in with Donald Trump. Just to be responsible and patriotic citizens by supporting the candidate most likely to implement the policies, which are essential to the preservation of this once great country.
As Bill Barr said, Biden with his utter disregard for the rule of law, the highly politicized administration of justice by the courts, and the weakening of law enforcement and military capability is a FAR GREATER threat to Democracy than Donald Trump ever was.
All I wish for is that those who can never vote for Trump STAY HOME on November 5th.
Well maybe not all I wish for.
With These Horses We Must Plow.
I wish I had substantive issues to talk about, but I can’t find any. We know what Trump will do. Finish the job he started in the first term. We know what Biden will do. Undo whatever is left of the Trump policies. Plus, keep running up the debt with handouts and abandoning our allies if support offends “Progressives”.
Now make no mistake about. Trump is no spring chicken. I’ve never been a fan of his oratory, just as I am not a fan of his personality. I’m sure his rambling style and tendency to go off message are signs of age. But comparing Trump at 77 to Biden at 81, is ridiculous. At least Trump still knows how to get off the stage without someone holding his hand.
The following clip documents the most recent examples of Biden’s visits to La La land. Talk about tuned out. His press secretary calls them – alternately - misinformation, disinformation, deep fakes and (the newest) “cheap fakes.” They look pretty real to me.
I noticed that now, every time Sleepy must leave the stage or get turned around, it’s no longer enough to say, “This way, Joe”. Now somebody has to grab his arm or shoulder and lead him.
I’ve read several comments from WH insiders who swear he’s sharp as a tack behind closed doors. I say – prove it. Put him out there to do some unscripted interviews with serious interviews. No softballs.
I guess it doesn’t matter much whether he can count to five because others are clearly pulling the strings. But, c’mon man. The world is watching. About time the Lame Stream Media and responsible Democrats are honest with Americans. Call it for what it is.
I guess if Biden, feeble and senile as he is, was espousing border security, rebuilding the military, energy independence, etc. it wouldn’t be the worst thing to reelect him.
But even then, I ask you. What job in the United States would you hire Joe Biden for? CEO of a company? Would you invest? Professor at your kid’s college where you are paying $75K a year? Greeter at Walmart? Think he can remember which aisle the weed eaters are in? Honestly, can you think of any job at any level in the US for which you would hire Biden? Not counting, of course, Commander-in-Chief of the world’s number one superpower.
