I know, I know. Getting sick of my man crush on Ron DeSantis. But with tonight being last debate before Iowa, I have one further thought.
I feel RDS is solid on all fronts except one. You guessed it Abortion. Last night on the Town Hall, when asked his position on Abortion, he sounded like he was about to ready to fumble out of bounds, but the clock ran out.
So, I got to thinking. How would I handle the question – “What is your position on ABORTION?”
Maybe something like this…
“I think the best way to answer is on two levels. Some people will claim this is evasive, but here goes.
First level. As a human being, I am a firm believer in the sanctity of life and that life begins at proof of conception. For me, as human being who believes in God, I find it inconceivable that I would recommend aborting a fetus. Now there may be some heinous situations where no humane alternative exists and I would be forced morally to condone, but I can’t readily imagine such.
That is my position on abortion as a human being raised in the image in likeness of God.
If it were up to me, I would fight for the rights of the unborn.
But as President (or any elected official), it is not up to me.
More relevant to this evening is the question what is my position as your President? Here too, it is clear cut. I will, to the best of my ability and with 100% conviction, uphold the law of the United States of America, regardless of my feelings as a human being. Not only on abortion but on all other matters governed by law. I will not, as in vogue today, put my thumb on the scale.
The law of the United States of America says the Abortion issue and whatever laws pertain to its adjudication are to be decided by the States. So, that is my position. I will uphold the law of the United States regardless of my personal convictions or feelings as a human being. Pure and simple.
