Presidential History as I recall it.

On the eve of the 2022 midterms, I found myself thinking about our recent presidential history and decided to record my recollections for posterity.
Let’s begin with Slick Willie Clinton. Elected in 1992 after HW Bush (It’s the economy, stupid) squandered the Reagan legacy by doing nothing. Clinton was somewhat of an enigma. A card carrying Liberal and southern Democrat, he came to DC after running the 33rd largest state in the country, Razorback heaven. He became a fiscal conservative (almost) after getting whacked in the ’94 midterms and having to succumb to Mitch Gingrich’s Contract with America. Compared to the longlist of spendthrift Dems, Clinton was somewhat responsible. Fiscally at least. Morally was another question. Still Americans loved Slicked Willie even after he looked us straight in eye and – lied (I never had sex…). Can you imagine what the MM would have done to Trump if he got caught with the blue dress? Think pilloried and scourged – literally. (Now we know - they indicted him!)
After 8 years of Willie shucking and jiving, the country had enough and handed the ball to Dubya (barely). Dubya too was an enigma. He ran the second largest state, Texas. But was clearly not the sharpest tool in the box. Benefitting from the respect people had for his father and the fact he was really an insider, Dubya landed on the most heroic pedestal from which to govern since FDR. By most accounts, he wore the mantle well and led America’s recovery from 911. Well, that is until his rationale for invading Iraq (WMDs) came under scrutiny. Hell, even good ole, Colin Powell, couldn’t keep a straight face. Late in his second term, the likeable Dubya faced scorn and derision, especially as the home mortgage crisis began to emerge. By the time he left office in 2008, the hate mail was profuse. Whereas I can understand the revulsion for Trump, the visceral loathing for Bush still puzzles me to some extent.
So now the country was ready for REAL CHANGE. We elected Barack Hussein Obama, a man with some highly electable qualities. African American, well educated, attractive, articulate (at least when reading a teleprompter). Background for leading a country of 300 million plus? None, zip, nada. Community organizer. Barry never ran a state, a company, anything. But he promised HOPE and CHANGE. In my opinion, the Obama presidency should be known for two things. A healthcare plan that no one read or understood and led to higher premiums with fewer choices for us all. And...and...the initiation of Wokism. Every instance when a black man died and law enforcement was involved was trumpeted as evidence America was racist. I don’t believe Obama likes or cares a whit about America. He saw himself as some messianic figure ordained to remake the country. He even conducted an apology tour abroad. Truthfully, he should have been out after four years, but lily-livered Mitt Romney fumbled in the red zone.
This brings us to 2016 and the biggest shocker since Joe Willie beat the Colts in ’69. The Donald defeats Hilary Clinton, thereby repudiating the Obama legacy (for the time being). Ah, The Donald. On June 16, 2015, he announced his candidacy. I was on board from day one, especially when I saw the lame slate of alternatives. I had bumper stickers made that read POLICY TRUMPS personality. How prescient that would become – and then untrue. Under Trump, America made more progress toward becoming great again than anyone since the GOAT, Ronnie Reagan. His administration addressed taxes, border security, excessive regulations, energy self-sufficiency, military revitalization, international respect, etc. Our economy roared, illegal immigration slowed, 401Ks and the stock market boomed, and we became energy self-sufficient.
Then it all came crashing down. Not because of Covid really. For two reasons. First, his election denied the inevitable ascension of Hilarious who was anointed to continue the Obama revolution. And, second, because The Donald pissed too many people off who control the Media and the Beltway. His uncontrollable irascibility opened the door for a lamebrain like Joe Biden. I still cannot fathom how a political hack with criminal relatives beat Donald Trump from his basement with more votes than Obama & Hilarious. Still can’t (don’t) believe it.
Finally, that brings us to Bareshelves. Let’s review his track record of accomplishments to date.
Well, that didn’t take long.
I find it interesting but unsurprising. That so many hate the two Republicans (W and DT) but adore Clinton and Obama. Hell, they even cut The Joker slack. Man, is he creepy.
So this brings us to November 8th. Three weeks from today. We all know what we must do. We must wrest control of Congress and then we must make it clear to Donald that he must step aside. (Ha, good luck.) I am more convinced than ever that we have the perfect solution in Ron DeSantis. The only way we can lose to Biden, Camilla, whoever the hell they run is if we give the liberals another shot at Donald Trump.
(3/24 - how badly did we miss those goals? Double ouch!)
