Green Doesn't Work for Trucks Either

As has been reported on multiple occasions the current Biden crusade for Green Energy as mandated by the Progressives is not only wreaking havoc with industries and consumer freedoms, it is unachievable and downright irresponsible.

Recently the EPA rolled out a series of regulations on pollution for trucks and other heavy vehicles.  These rules mean that at least 25% of long haul trucks must have zero emissions by 2032.

Here are the highlights of what Andrew Boyle, American Trucking Association Chairman, had to say before Congress.

  • A clean diesel truck can refuel in 15 minutes anywhere in the country.  Once full, it has a range of 1200 miles before it must refuel.

  • A long-haul battery-operated truck can take 10 hours to recharge and then has a range of 150-300 miles.  And this is assuming charging stations are available everywhere, which they clearly are not.

  • The impact is that loads will cost 2 to 3X more to haul using battery operated trucks.  To convert the US fleet of Class 8 trucks to battery electric will cost $1 trillion, which will, of course, be passed on to consumers.

  • A battery-operated truck will cost $200,000 to $300,000 more than a diesel operated one.  Then charging one will consume more energy than a home does in one day.

Despite the ludicrous nature of these mandates, Biden continues to ram them down our throats.

Funny except It Ain’t

Congratulations to Tiffany Heynard, who has now rested the moniker, “The Worst Mayor in America’ away from her fellow Illina (female Illini).  Thanks to her profligate spending, her town of Dolton, IL is now bankrupt.  Wardrobes, stylists, trips abroad have now put this community $7M in debt.  The average income of Dolton residents is $24,000 and the majority are Black.  Much to their credit they have come out in force to demand Ms. Heynard’s (also African American) removal.  The FBI has intervened and subpoenaed records, etc.

Here is the funny except it ain’t part.  They want to appoint the previous worst mayor in America, Lori Lightfoot, as special investigator.  Ms. Lightfoot, former mayor of Chicago, lost her job after one term when she couldn’t even win her own primary for reelection.  Even Joe Biden won his.

Only in Illinois (or California or New York or name pretty much any Blue state.)

Look Good, Feel Good

A while back, I was asked by a young person for some advice as he started his career in business.  I thought about opining on the importance of investing early and letting compounding do its thing or the value of understanding behavior (expectations, capabilities and rewards), but I chose a different topic.

In an age where cynicism rules, few things are more important than understanding how important it is to make others look good and feel good.  Especially those who hold one’s fate in their hands.

The one thing I will always remember about Barack Hussein Obama was his never wavering penchant to take full credit for everything he thought went right.  I never once heard him say “we” or “my administration”.  It was always “I”.  The same applies to the narcissistic Donald J. Trump and senile Joe Biden.  In their eyes, they deserve full credit for everything of which they are proud, while all failures and fiascoes are ignored or blamed on the opposition.  Such a turn off, at least to me.

Another thing I remember is closer to home.  From early days, I was always impressed by son’s inclination to praise the accomplishments of others and give credit.  Even to those with whom he competed or lost.  Such a nice trait and one he clearly did not inherit from his father.

This habit of giving credit and praise to others is such a wonderful one to hone and retain.  There are many axioms that reiterate this.  If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.  There is no “I” in team.  You catch more flies with honey, etc.  Regardless of how trite, each is true and over a lifetime will pay a plethora of dividends.  Maybe more than investing early and letting your assets grow untouched.

So, despite Billy Cystal’s famous SNL line, “It’s better to look good than feel good”, it’s best to err on the side of making those around you feel good AND look good.
