AI Update: Think about It

AI has access to everything or soon will. If there is any record, it can access. What about new ideas? Theories? Work Product? Trade Secrets? Inventions? Military Strategies? Biological Weapons and Military Technology?...

Apparently Russia already has technology platforms that can adapt on the fly. Based on terrain, weather, enemy maneuvers and defenses. Without human intervention - BOOM. Their new drone program is called GERAN. It is a constantly evolving platform that can rapidly modify navigation, communications, payloads, propulsion, and tactics in response to changing Ukrainian defenses. Many of the parts came from the Chicoms.

Another reason for the US to stay ahead.

AI and Education

While a major kerfuffle of major is unfolding over the question of what role should AI play in the education of our young, let's not forget what the endgame is.

Although AI clearly absolves the student of traditional activities proven to be developmentally important...isn't the bottom line to produce graduates who are highly productive members of society? So, they can be hit up for multimillion $ donations to the endowment fund down the road?

For once, let's keep our eye on the ball. Put the flowers and kumbaya aside. If AI is the future of society shouldn't students be taught how best to succeed in that realm?

On the other hand...Did You Become a Better Tennis Player by Watching Wimbledon on TV?

Will you become a better reader, writer, thinker by having AI do it for you? Are kids becoming dumber because 50% now use bots in the classroom? Scores prove competencies are declining. Covid's in the rearview mirror. How much longer can we ride that bus? And, oh yeah, will it really matter?

Why Does China Open Source Its AI?

So more and more users end up on Chinese systems, of course. Just like the electric generators they sell us have a back door so the Chicoms can access and shut off. Or the medical devices that decide if we have cancer or heart disease. Or Tik Tok.

If most of the world uses China's AI infrastructure, that's good thing, right? Sure as hell not for us.

In Sheep's Clothing

All of a sudden CEOs and top execs at AI leaders, Anthropic and Open AI, are talking...very, very responsibly. Using phrases like "need to slow down".

I smell a rat.  Could it be they just want to stall smaller competitors trying to catch up. Tech patriotic? Feels strange, no? Especially when both CEOs have trillion dollar IPOs on the horizon.

Even JD, who's known for being bros with tech, called the sudden altruism "a trojan horse".

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a functional Congress to take up the mantle on this one?

Talk About Half Full!

OECD scores just came out. Education scores continue to plummet. Know what the Left has to say?

Good news. The socioeconomic gap has shrunk dramatically.

Know why? Cause 'smart" kids are getting worse faster. Students considered “disadvantaged” lost four points in reading, while socioeconomically “advantaged” students lost 20 points in reading.

Talk about a glass half full perspective. Looks like YouTube in the classroom, Woke curriculum combined and a heavy dose of screen time in the evening aren't very productive.

By the way - aside from Asia - this tragic trend is seen outside the US as well. Go you Tiger Moms.

Instead, the project took seven years and ballooned to $942 million in cost—and the finished project was so poorly designed and difficult to use that an entirely new IT department had to be created just to keep the software functional. Savings on staffing were zero.

A Census Conundrum

The next US census will be on April 1, 2030. A short four years away.

The census has BIG TIME ramifications. It determines congressional seats, redraws electoral districts and allocates billions in government funding.

A huge question is whom should be included? Undocumented immigrants, in particular. The Democrats certainly hope so.

Today the law says everyone living here counts regardless of whether US citizens or not. How is that fair? Just because a state harbors illegals they should get more money from out-of-state taxpayers and more representation?

Bet if the law clear that non US citizens do not count...resistance to ICE would plummet.

He provided a video praising fellow Republican Senator Dave McCormick and the Republicans and expressing willingness to work with President Trump. It was played at Midterm Republican Convention in Dallas this week.

Boy, I like people who agree with us.

Out of Hand - No?

Miami played Florida A&M last Thursday night in college football The line was Miami -59.5, meaning the bookmakers felt Miami would win by 60 points.

The final score was 77-7 and that does not include the fact that both coaches agreed to call the game off early. Miami gained over 800 yards. At one point the FAMU QB was hit so hard it went viral.

I say enough is enough. I know the small schools get a big paycheck but c'mon. What if someone dies?

Elon intends to take over the phone market. By putting AI on his phone and transmitting signals from satellites. He's putting the pieces in place. In fact, most are already there. He has satellites above already and adding more. He paid $19.6 billion to buy spectrum - the airwave licenses you need. The only thing he lacks is the device. The phone. But he's building a factory for these.

Timeline...two years. No more Verizon etc.

Confirmation: We're SOL with China's Drugs.

The US produces 3% of the active ingredients required to produce the drugs we consume. 60% of the essential ingredients we require to produce our pharmaceuticals are made in China.

Decades of wholesale gutting our industrial base in the pursuit of cheaper labor has us in this bind. It is one thing to pursue global supply chains in the interest of efficiency. Quite another to second strategic ingredients to a sworn enemy.

Just like rare earth minerals, China now has a stranglehold on our medicine cabinet. It sure ain't about tee shirts any more.

If there's anyone still left on this planet who does not think China is a "sworn enemy", just consider that - as we speak - they are supplying both Russia and Iran with vital military components necessary to continue their wars.

Energy - Life Runs Through It

A billion people live like we do. Running water, climate-controlled homes and businesses, cars, buses, trains and planes. 7 billion do not.

The world has spend $10 trillion on wind, solar, batteries and transmission thereof. The countries that have spent the most - like the UK, Germany and Denmark - have the highest electricity prices in the world.

You cannot live in the modern world without the four pillars of civilization today. Steel, cement, plastics and fertilizer. Producing them consumes 20% of global energy.

As soon as "firm" energy supply is reduced in favor of intermittent based on sun and wind, these industries are no longer viable. They must outsourced. Ask the UK how that's gone. They've destroyed whole industries and now rely on guess whom? Five letters and starts with a C and an H. Here's the kicker - the UK still relies on oil and gas for the great majority of its energy.

Under Obama and reinvigorated under Sleepy, though he may not have noticed, global warming became the rage. Then it changed to climate change. Then when high profile advocates like Bill Gates started to slink away, the left came up with "extreme weather"

Well, here's a reality check. In the past 125 years the planet has "warmed" by 2 degrees. Would you notice if your thermostat went up from 71 to 73 degrees?

As far as "extreme weather"...in the 1920's, 500,000 people a year died from extreme weather. Last year the number was 10,000. And the population has increased 400%.

Wouldn't it be much more productive if the world focused its attention on "energy poverty"?

Today a quarter of the earth's population, 2 billion people, still cook their food using wood, farm waste or animal dung. And they do it it indoors where the WHO estimates a million die each year due to "in home" pollution.

C'mon. Two degrees in more than a century?

SLEEZY STUNT

That's what Trump's plan to buy the midterms is. $5,000 to every US citizen if Republicans win midterm elections? At $1.2 trillion, how in the hell are we going to pay for that? I guess he's "banking" on Congress denial.

Honestly this guy is becoming more like PT Barnum than Ronald Reagan.

Speaking of which...We Need a Reagan

Since we can't have him, we need his message. A hopeful message. One that inspires.

It's not like Reagan inherited a lay up. Interest rates were 20%. GDP growth was -0.3%. Unemployment hit 10%. Amidst all this darkness, Reagan said, "If we look for the answer as to why, for so many years, we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on Earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before."

He was right. Four years later, it was "Morning Again in America." GDP shot up to 6.8% as tax cuts took effect. Unemployment tumbled, followed by interest rates. The Soviet Union reeled as America’s military came back stronger than ever, with the fall of the Iron Curtain just five years away.

Trump can do this. He delivered the vision. But, unfortunately, he continually throws a bucket of frigid water on inspiration by continually reverting to self adulation and insulting the opposition. What should be uplifting and aspirational becomes petty and obnoxious.

Is he the only one who doesn't see this? Is everyone in the room, even his sons, so cowed they refuse to confront? Sure seems so.

Short Memories and Low Pain Thresholds

Not long ago we reported on the amazing progress President Milei had made on reducing inflation in Argentina. Prices were rising 200% per year. Now its 30%...but as always prices are still going up.

So the "people" are not seeing the kind of results in their pockets they want. Result, the President, who is absolutely doing the right thing, is seeing his popularity sink.

Sound familiar? Patience is not something of which Argentines or Americans have much.

Opening Week Viewers Down

I know a lot of guys just like me (I know...sad, but true). As far as looking forward to the start of football season. We start salivating in late June.

Well, the NFL opened this week to a full slate starting with a Super Bowl rematch. And...viewers were DOWN significantly. Some speculate it was due to a Wednesday start.

My guess? This damn annoying necessity to search five streaming channels plus network to find the games. What a PITA. Put the freakin' games on regular TV for gosh sakes.

Blind Men and the Elephant

Remember the parable. Several blind men are asked to describe an elephant. One grabs the trunk and says the elephant is a snake. Another grabs a leg and says the elephant is a tree. A third grabs the tail and says the elephant is a rope...you get the point.

How is so many people with the same goal...namely prosperity and security for themselves and their family...can see life so differently? How is it they can support such differing political agendas and leaders?

The answer has to lie in the information we receive. Through parents, education, media and power driven politicians. As long as we remain saturated by fake news, distorted facts, biased opinions and downright deception, alignment and unity will never be possible. Honest, healthy debate is not only useful, it is a requirement for progress.

I'm not sure anybody trusts anybody these days.

Without valid information to rely on, we are like blind men grabbing a different part of the elephant.

No More Jokes

My sister yelled at me and said they were "bad". Said these posts are "long enough". So no more jokes...for a while at least. As far as verbosity... sorry, but some things take a some 'splainin'.
